I recently had the pleasure of visiting the The Coachman Bar in Clonmel and what a fantastic night was had by all. This fabulous bar is situated in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. The Coachman – formally known as Larry Tobins/Slievenamon – is located at 13/14 Parnell Street. The premises boasts three bars including two function rooms. Live entertainment takes place four nights a week satisfying all ages. Recently modernised and refurbished, the premises offers the character and classical lines of yesterday, but the luxuries of today. With extensive street frontage, it stands prominently in Parnell Street. The business is privately owened by the Shanahan family for the past 25 years, so plenty of knowledge of the bar and cabaret going in their favour.

As a wedding videographer here in Tipperary, I get asked lots of times about wedding bands in and around the Tipperary area and further afield. The best way to choose your wedding band is go to hear them. But, as it was brought to my attention of late, people don’t like “gate crashing” a wedding party to hear a band playing. I can see their point, but on my visit to the The Coachman Bar Clonmel, I saw a band setting up in the room and recognised them from the many weddings I video in Dundrum House Hotel, Ballykisteen Hotel in Tipperary and other hotels. I went up and spoke to the band – a very popular band, I might say. I wont name them as it would not be fair on other great bands. Durring the conversation, we got to chat about weddings and all the places we meet over the year. He explained to me that 3 couples were coming to the The Coachman Bar that night to hear them, as they did not like the idea of going to someone’s wedding party to hear them.

This is a fantastic idea, putting no pressure on the couple. They can stay for a drink in the lovely comforts of the bar and chat to a band member and ask him to play a certain song they might want at their wedding. As the night went on and the band in question WAS fantastic, I might add, I did see the couples meet them and, along with the band getting a booking, so did I. They introduced them to me, so happy days all around.
