Beautiful video & photo locations in Tipperary & Kilkenny
Wedding Photography and Video-shoot locations around Cashel, Co Tipperary
As a popular wedding videographer in Tipperary and Kilkenny and further afield, I get asked about the best places for wedding photography and video shoots after the service. As I live in Cashel I would have to recommend the Hoare Abbey just up from where I live. Hoare Abbey is a Cistercian monastery, and most of the visible remains date to the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. You can still see the well preserved remains of a refectory, a large church with nave, chancel, and transepts all in good condition. Each of the transepts has a small chapel, and you can see the remains of an Archbishop’s tomb just north of the chancel. Ideal Wedding video shoot locations
The cloisters are in a very unusual position. Usually the cloister is positioned to the south of the church – however at Hoare Abbey they are positioned to the north. This is possibly because the Rock of Cashel is so prominent to the north, they wanted to maximise its impact. and fantastic light coming tru, With all these fantastic features you will be spoiled for choice.
The Rock of Cashel is also a great photo opportunity. Towering over the town from its perch on a 200 foot high outcrop of limestone, the Rock was once the seat of the Kings of Munster. It was visited by St. Patrick in 450 and Brian Boru was crowned King of Ireland here in the 10th century. Granted to the church in the 1100s by the O’Brien clan king, the Rock became the seat of the archbishop and it was at this time that Cormac’s Chapel was built. In 1647 the Rock was ransacked by Cromwellian forces under the leadership of Lord Inchiquin.
As a local Videographer I have filmed some stunning wedding videos in these old ruins, and if any bride is planning her wedding in the area and would like to see some footage please let me know and I can arrange for you to view it.
There are a lot more fantastic photographic locations in and around Cashel / Tipperary areas. Ardmayle Church is one that springs to mind
The church and tower at Ardmayle have existed in one from or another since the middle of the 12th century. The first stone church was erected by the Normans in the 13th century under the auspices of the Knights Templar. The church was badly damaged in 1315 and after being renovated or rebuilt is was again badly damaged in 1581 during the Desmond rebellion. The church and tower would change hands
on many occasions during the course of history with the Protestants eventually taking up permanent residence after the Catholic church moved to Nodstown (Boherlahan) in 1813. The Protestant community continued to worship in Ardmayle until the late 1950s when, due to dwindling numbers, they closed the church. The Grubb family continued to look after the building until the 1980s when the Ardmayle Heritage Society with the help of Sean Woodward of Cashel, Canon Morrissey and Fr. Feehan of Boherlahan took over the church and completely renovated it.
And in Kilkenny
As a very frequent visitor to Kilkenny & Carlow to video weddings one is spoiled for choice in and around Kilkenny city for photography and video shoot locations, one that I enjoy shooting video in is Butler House Kilkenny . The superb location of Butler House in the center of historic Kilkenny City . Through the front door you will be surprised to find the internationally renowned Butler House Walled Garden. This charming Georgian garden was restored to its former glory in 1999 and boosts its own private entrance to the Castle yard and Kilkenny Castle. This is another unique feature of this wonderful house, and again what a locan for your wedding photographs and wedding video.
Next has to be Kilkenny Castle, I was the first wedding videographer to film a wedding in the round tower in this great castle some years ago, the grounds are spectacular both in summer and winter, so well worth a visit for your wedding day. read a little about it …one of the most instantly recognised buildings in Ireland, Kilkenny Castle has been an important site since Strongbow constructed the first castle, probably a wooden structure, in the 12th century.William the Earl Marshall built the first stone castle on the site, which was completed in 1213. This was a square-shaped castle with towers at each corner; three of these original four towers survive to this day The Butler family bought the Castle in 1391 and lived there until 1935. They were Earls, Marquesses and Dukes of Ormonde and lived in the castle for over five hundred years. They were a remarkable family, resilient, politically astute and faithful to the crown and to Ireland as dictated by the politics of the times. These loyalties determined their fortunes and career, and so too the fortunes of their seat.
