Wedding Video Kilkenny

What a fantastic day I had lately, filming the wedding in Kilkenny of John & Muireann in St. Canice’s Church, Kilkenny. You will see from the photos that Muireann’s bouquet was a real work of art; so classy and bespoke. They were a real fun couple to work with. It was laughs all the way! The day started at the church, with John and his best man getting  their photographs  taken by Ross Costigan, a great Kilkenny photographer. I enjoy working with him and we have recommended each other  a lot over the years.

St Canice’s Cathedral and Round Tower are an essential part of the structural heritage in the vibrant medieval city of Kilkenny. This ecclesiastical site was founded in the 6th century and named after St Canice. Cill Channigh is the Gaelic for the Church of Canice, the church that originally stood on the site in the 6th century.Combining the early Christian settlement, the Round Tower, the Anglo Norman Cathedral and its rich cultural ecclesiastical heritage makes St Canice’s Cathedral and its environs a must to visit while you are in Kilkenny. The Round Tower is the oldest standing structure in Kilkenny City. Tourists can enjoy climbing the Round Tower capturing great views of the city (weather permitting). St Canice’s Round Tower is one of only two Round Towers that people can climb in Ireland.

The music in the church was very special as John is a keen musician and plays in his own band.  The music had to be just so. As with every wedding video, I like to use a radio mic or a top of the range audio recorder to get the very best sound from the where ever the music is being played in the church.

Lyrath House in Kilkenny was their reception venue. Again, as you will see from the photographs, the light was fantastic with the hotel in the background.  This hotel is one of my favourites to film weddings in as the staff are so friendly and helpful to all. The lighting in the ballroom for the speeches and dancing is a dream to film with.

Lyrath Estate Hotel is a fantastic Hotel and I am very happy to be their  number one Videographer whom they  recommend to couples enquiring about wedding videos.  At this hotel they provide  you with the ultimate Kilkenny wedding venue. An amazing picturesque setting coupled with the expertise and professionalism of our management team and staff, guarantees your wedding guests a uniquely memorable experience. Weddings at the Lyrath Estate Hotel Kilkenny are a speciality. With fine cuisine as our trade mark, a tantalizing mouth watering experience is always guaranteed on your wedding day. Abbey Video Tipperary – Templetuohy

My wedding video is showcased on www.thurles.info, I had the pleasure of working on a lovely wedding video a few weeks ago in Templetuohy which is  only a short spin from Cashel. The wedding took place on August 22nd last of the very lovely Miss Clare Monahan to Mr Sean White. Clare and Sean were a fantastic couple to work with on the day, it was one those weddings that was so easy to video, but of course the end result was second to none as always!

Clare, a native of Thurles, and Sean both travelled home from Australia to ‘tie the knot’ and the Bride was chauffeured from her native Thurles to the church of The Sacred Heart situated in the picturesque village of Templetuohy for the ceremony.

Escorted down the aisle by her father Larry, Clare looked stunningly beautiful in her wedding gown. Equally beautiful were her four accompanying bridesmaids: sister Tara Monahan

(Maid of Honour) and Bridesmaids Lynn Maher, Theresa White and Deirdre O’Gorman.

Also adding to the splendour of this occasion were Flower Girls Emily White and Roisin Maher and Pageboy Jack Monahan.

Sean, the Groom, was attended by Colm Ryan (Bestman) and Groomsmen Michael White, Johnny Brown and Bobby Monahan.

The couple proclaimed their love for each other in front of a large gathering of family members and close friends, in a service beautifully conducted by Rev. Fr Pat Murphy, a close friend of both families.

Following a very beautiful and relaxed ceremony, the new Mr and Mrs White retired to the ever popular Tipperary wedding venue, the Abbey Court Nenagh, Hotel, where guests were entertained to a champagne and wine reception, together with other light refreshments.

Their wedding video was recorded by the very popular Tipperary videographer Mr Joe Boland of Abbey Video Productions Cashel. Following family photographs in the wonderful private gardens attached to the Hotel, the newly married couple joined their guests in the venue’s main Banqueting Suite for dinner.

This was followed by dancing very late into the evening with music provided by popular band ‘ The Paddies.’

The couple had previously chosen to travel around Ireland for a few days to relax, covering Dingle and other popular coastal areas in the west of Ireland before returning to Australia a few days later.

To Clare and Sean go all our best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous long life together and from all your guests in attendance, thank you for a most wonderful and enjoyable evening.

Rock the Frock?… Really??

Rock the Frock abbey video productions

Rock the Frock by Abbey Video

In all my years of filming wedding video in Tipperary & Carlow, Laois and Kilkenny for Abbey Video Productions, I thought I had seen and heard it all, but every year a young bride or groom will come surprise me with a new quirky idea. Last week I had a request from a young couple asking me to film a ‘muck up’ the day after their wedding. They had already booked me to film their wedding, but they wanted this as an added extra to the video and as a personal expression of their identity as a couple.

The bride who was nervous with excitement told me how she wants me to film the newly-wed couple after the wedding, back at their farm yard! The bride also has a keen interest in all things equestrian and wanted to include this in her wedding video too. After a few emails, we met up over coffee and had a great conversation – we came up with some original ideas and we’ve decided that upon their arrival at the farmyard, the bride and groom will cast off her fine wedding shoes and don their… wellington boots!! The groom will roll up his sleeves and grab a pitch fork and get to work. I will follow and film them as they go on a walk-about their farm yard and visit and feed the animals as if it were any other day.

Well, I thought this sounded a little eccentric at first, and I was surprised at how a young bride is prepared to risk getting her (possibly very expensive) wedding dress dirty or damaged, but apparently that is the idea! This will be a first for me, but as they explained the reasoning behind their idea, how the family farm is such an important part of their lives, it all began to make sense and I can appreciate why it is so important to them. I love how they’ve use their imaginations to create a memorable wedding video to record their wedding day. They’re such an energetic, fun-loving young couple with strong emotional ties to their farm, where they will spend many happy years together, so this is a fantastic and fun way to celebrate their day.

Rock the Frock by abbey video

Rock the Frock by Abbey Video !

As this concept was entirely new to me, I delved a little deeper on the subject and the ‘muck up’ idea appears to have originated in America, and is referred to by some as ‘trash the dress’ or ‘fearless bridal’. Unpredictable and what you may consider unlikely locations are favoured most, such as disused railway tracks, old factories, city streets or even a mechanic’s workshop.

In Co. Tipperary there are dozens of great and unusual locations for filming wedding videos. Imagine walking barefoot through an apple orchard, or through a forest with your dogs as you take them for a walk. The unexpected juxtaposition of a wedding dress, fine tailoring and elegant bouquet against a backdrop of the great outdoors or industrial buildings makes for great cinematography and certainly not your average wedding video.

Already, I’m really looking forward to filming this part of their wedding video. I’ve had great ideas, such as the bride strolling through a field, with her favourite horse meandering closely behind her, or feeding the chickens as they peck around her feet. I have a feeling that this part of the video will be improvised as they are a laid-back couple and farm animals can be…well unpredictable. We’ll see what happens on the day, but that is all part of the excitement and will certainly help to create that magical atmosphere.

A wedding video will always include the important parts of your day such as the ceremony, the speeches and greeting the guests, and all these parts are crucial, however, it’s lovely to add something small to show a little of your personality and identity as a couple. I love this extra creativity that modern young couples bring to their wedding today.

Christmas Wedding Video Abbey Video Productions

It’s that time of the year where we look back on the old and look forward to the new. 2014 was a fantastic year for us, with weddings all over Munster, but mostly in my own county of Tipperary and, of course, down the road in Kilkenny. But these are only a few areas I have visited of course. I’ll be in Carlow, Waterford and Limerick, as well, over the next few days – Windgap in Kilkenny  then on to the Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny, Cashel  & Dundrum House Hotel Tipperary, and back to Kilkenny to return to the New park Hotel again for my first wedding of 2015. I love Christmas and new year weddings. My Christmas weddings of 2014 over the last few weeks  have been so busy & fantastic, with lovely light, cosy fires in the hotels – not that I get to stand by it for long or taste the mulled wine! But it’s still nice with everyone dressed with a hint of black and red. Overall, it’s a lovely time to get married.

I  have updated some of my wedding video packages for the coming year, as stated on my site. No big changes, just a little more value for your money. I kept my prices the same last year and will for next year, and yes, for 2016 as well! Now that’s value for your money going forward! My ongoing promotion for referring a friend still stands. This has been a HUGE success. Just a little reminder, when you book your wedding with me, and if you refer a friend who is getting married or planning their wedding and looking for a wedding videographer and should they book me on your referral for their wedding videography, you will get money off your chosen package and so will they. It’s simple. All my wedding video packages for 2015 / 2016 are well designed for you, the couple, in mind. A quick look over them you can see the full details of my wedding video packages here

Christmas Wedding Video Abbey Video Productions

It’s Sunday evening and I must get ready for a wedding video tomorrow of a lovely couple. The bride is, of course, a local girl from Tipperary and the groom, a Kilkenny man, so I’m looking forward to a fun filled day. I don’t get a chance to sit and write blogs much as I would like to, but I love to keep up with my work by having the couples wedding video completed on time and ready for collection when they come back off honeymoon. It’s like the school shows I filmed over Christmas time – ALL were ready and delivered on time for Christmas for their families to enjoy on Christmas day. I filmed a show in Newport in Tipperary on the 17th of December, and the very large amount of DVDs were delivered to the school on the 19th – two day later! Now that’s service and, of course, with a 🙂 Breda, my good wife and editor in one, was a big part of the editing and packing over Christmas. With weddings and shows all over Tipperary and Kilkenny, this is where two people working as a great team makes a great video business. My last few words are, of course, to wish you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2015 ~ Joe

Hoare Abbey Cashel – Abbey Video Productions

Wedding Photography and Video-shoot locations around Cashel, Co Tipperary

As a popular wedding videographer in Tipperary and Kilkenny and further afield, I get asked about the best places for wedding photography and video shoots after the service. As I live in Cashel I would have to recommend the Hoare Abbey just up from where I live.  Hoare Abbey is a Cistercian monastery, and most of the visible remains date to the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. You can still see the well preserved remains of a refectory, a large church with nave, chancel, and transepts all in good condition. Each of the transepts has a small chapel, and you can see the remains of an Archbishop’s tomb just north of the chancel. Ideal Wedding video shoot locations

Rock of Cashel - Abbey Video Productions wedding video kilkenny

Rock of Cashel – Abbey Video Productions

The cloisters are in a very unusual position.  Usually the cloister is positioned to the south of the church – however at Hoare Abbey they are positioned to the north. This is possibly because the Rock of Cashel is so prominent to the north, they wanted to maximise its impact.  With all these fantastic features you will be spoiled for choice.

The Rock of Cashel is also a great photo opportunity.  Towering over the town from its perch on a 200 foot high outcrop of limestone, the Rock was once the seat of the Kings of Munster. It was visited by St. Patrick in 450 and Brian Boru was crowned King of Ireland here in the 10th century. Granted to the church in the 1100s by the O’Brien clan king, the Rock became the seat of the archbishop and it was at this time that Cormac’s Chapel was built. In 1647 the Rock was ransacked by Cromwellian forces under the leadership of Lord Inchiquin.

As a local Videographer I have filmed some stunning wedding videos in these old ruins, and if any bride is planning her wedding in the area and would like to see some footage please let me know and I can arrange for you to view it.

The church and tower at Ardmayle have existed in one from or another since the middle of the 12th century. The first stone church was erected by the Normans in the 13th century under the auspices of the Knights Templar.  The church was badly damaged in 1315 and after being renovated or rebuilt is was again badly damaged in 1581 during the Desmond rebellion. The church and tower would change hands

on many occasions during the course of history with the Protestants eventually taking up permanent residence after the Catholic church moved to Nodstown (Boherlahan) in 1813. The Protestant community continued to worship in Ardmayle until the late 1950s when, due to dwindling numbers, they closed the church. The Grubb family continued to look after the building until the 1980s when the Ardmayle Heritage Society with the help of Sean Woodward of Cashel, Canon Morrissey and Fr. Feehan of Boherlahan took over the church and completely renovated it.

It’s great to have had a local wedding video job in Tipperary on the Saturday that Tipperary & Kilkenny  met again for the all Ireland replay, and what a day!  Katie Lyne from Lisronagh, between Fethard and Clonmel, & Barry Hickey tied the knot in glorious sunshine in Holycross Abbey.  A quick call to Katie’s  fabulous house that morning to capture it all going on – hair being done, make up being applied, ribbons being put on the cars – it had  the hallmarks of a great wedding to come!  Barry and the lads were at the Abbey in Holycross nice and early to meet and greet the huge number of guests  that had been invited.  Katie was not long behind and it was a first for me to see the Bride drive herself to the ceremony in her own car!  She looked stunning in her beautiful Audi with her Dad beside her in the passenger seat.

The Bridesmaids were on hand to do the last bit of lip gloss and away we went to capture Barry standing at the top of the aisle awaiting Katie’s arrival.  A lovely touch I thought was their mass booklets which were in the format of the programmes of the all-Ireland as you will see from the stills.  After the ceremony we went to the old  cloisters for some photographs with Nick O O’Keeffe, a great photographer from Kilkenny who I meet quite a lot at weddings and whose two sisters’ weddings I filmed a bit back. We get on great together and we recommend couples to each other which is a great way to network.

Dundrum House Hotel was really decked out for the day, the ballroom was splendid looking and of course there was a huge Tipperary theme as the staff were in their Tipperary jerseys and colours for the day.  The match was shown on screens in different parts of the hotel so all had a great view and I was able to capture some fantastic reaction while the match was on and it looked great on the finished DVD.

Katie and Barry’s band for the night was the very popular “The Marvels” and they rocked the night away. It was one of those weddings that  makes you feel good to be a local wedding videographer in Tipperary.

We’re out again this weekend, so if you’re in Waterford on Friday or  Kilkenny on Saturday you might see me there 🙂  In the mean time check out my personal page on face book and my Abbey Video on here.

Also some great news – the very popular Brides in Munster website got a stunning make over.  It has gone from strength to strength with loads of local wedding suppliers around Tipperary and also further afield and lots more to be added to it.  As I often say to couples that contact me about suppliers on it, it’s simple, clear and local, and its free!  So have a browse around this great little local site, you wont get better deals from any other wedding service providers!

As Holycross is a local landmark to me in Cashel here  is a little history about this lovely place enjoy…

Holy Cross Abbey Tipperary wedding video kilkenny Carlow & Tipperary

Holy Cross Abbey Tipperary

Holycross Abbey was founded in 1168 for the Benedictines by the King of Munster, Donal O Brien.  The Abbey was transferred to the Cistercians about 1182.  A particle of the True Cross was enshrined in the Abbey, and Holycross became one of the most frequented places of pilgrimage in Ireland. Suppressed in 1536, the Abbey was made over in 1563 to the Earl of Ormonde, but through the protection of the Butler Family, the monks remained at Holycross until the 17th century. It was very prosperous and several of the Abbots were peers of Parliament. The Abbey was later suppressed and given to the Earl of Desmond. In 1966 a new destiny opened up for Holycross.  A move was initiated locally to restore the Abbey church and bring it back into use for the local community. Archaeological excavations began in the Abbey shortly afterwards and restoration began in 1971. The restoration was completed in 1975.

A great local wedding video in Fethard

mrs2be-awards abbey video productionsLast Friday, 18 of July, the town of Fethard was my stop again to film the wedding of a lovely couple, Ailish & Robert.  Ailish is a local girl, just 2km outside the old town of Fethard. I arrived at Ailish’s house to find ribbons and bows being tied and stuck on the cars with great excitement. The bride-to-be was inside enjoying a cool glass of champagne with her bridesmaids. The hair was being styled and make up applied amid the rush for all to get ready. I then moved on the short drive to Fethard. I like to be at the church about one hour before it starts to set up and, of course, get the groom and the lads arriving, along with the huge number of guests. But of course,  McCarthy’s  pub across the street was calling the lads, so they gave in and went in for one. Why not, as I often say to couples. It’s your day, enjoy it your way. As I was going into Fethard church, I met with Fr. Breen, a lovely man to have at a wedding. He is so easygoing and makes the ceremony part easy on all. He turned to me and said: “You again! Two times here in three weeks!”. I replied: “When you’re good, you’re good!”  🙂  I’m looking forward to filming quite a few more wedding videos in Fethard before the end of the summer and next year.

The flowers that  Ailish & Robert had in the church were only fantastic, along with other wedding day bits and pieces. Not long after the lads came across the road from the local, Andrew McDermott, their wedding photographer, was ready to capture them before they met with the guests who were now arriving and set them up for their pre wedding photos

Wedding Video Fethard

Wedding Video Fethard

A short time later, Ailish arrived to a fantastic blue sky along with her bridesmaids. Again, Fr. Breen put all at ease with a full ceremony, but to the point. He also thanked both myself and Andrew for our courteous and professional conduct in the church during the wedding ceremony. In no time, we were heading again to McCarthy’s pub across the street for a few photographs and video of the couple pulling a pint. We then moved on to the old Fethard walls for some great video footage and photographs on the bridge and by the water.

Steve from Events Limousines was the driver for the day. I meet Steve at lots of local weddings around Tipperary, but he’s based in Waterford and has some fantastic cars to hire for a wedding or any event. He had an open day in his business premises in Waterford a bit back and and I had my business banner there for the weekend on display. I got a fantastic amount of enquires and bookings for next year and 2016 from it, so thanks for that, Steve.

Dundrum House Hotel was our stop for the evening and I was back in Dundrum the next day for another local wedding. It was nice to be just 10 minutes from home most weekends.

Andrew and myself took the couple and their families around the lovely grounds for some photos and video . We had loads of time to spare before the bell for dinner was called and, with the speeches before the meal, they were short and witty but covered everything. The couple chose Eden as their band and they had the floor rocking all night. Wishing the best of luck to Ailish & Robert and thanking them for choosing me at Abbey Video Productions to capture their special day.

As I was typing about Fethard earlier, I thought I would give you a little info on  McCarthy’s  pub. Enjoy…    ~  Joe

Established by Richard McCarthy in the 1850s, McCarthy’s Hotel provided the services of a spirit merchant, restaurant, hotel, undertaker, draper, grocer, baker, hackney service, glass, delph and china shop and if you still couldn’t get what you want – hire a few horses to take you elsewhere. Continuing in this tradition the present proprietor, Annette Murphy (fourth generation McCarthy), has a pub, restaurant and undertaker business which she runs with her family (fifth generation McCarthy).

McCarthy’s is situated in the medieval town of Fethard in Co. Tipperary. Formerly a very important market town in the 16th century, the town fell into decline. In the past twenty years the country in general, and Fethard in particular, has thrived – due in no small part to the equine scene in Coolmore and its associated farms plus numerous trainers and breeders dotted around Fethard. The re-discovery of our medieval past is of great importance to Fethard. Much of the medieval walls which surround the town have remained intact and a large portion of these walls have been restored. The town has been described as the most important walled town in Ireland next to Derry and is fast becoming the focal point for medieval scholars and tourists alike.
